From which direction is the wind blowing? The Studio of Interactive Media at the Faculty of Art and Design at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem presents selected work by students in the Bachelor and Masters Fine Arts programs.

The wind cyclone of various formats and media used, illustrates the many possibilities in selecting media of expression, which facilitate the portrayal of the chosen topic treated in an art work. The different works presented are based on data projections, videoart, and spatial installations, and they are characteristic for their distinctive approach, as well as respect for individual development of the artist.

The studio classwork is focused on new media and working with electronic image, as well as on spatial work. The studio is led by artists Pavel Kopřiva and Jan Prošek, who guide the students toward experiencing interaction in the direction of the viewer or gallery space, as well as toward varied, sometimes experimental creative work.

They perceive interactivity as an unlimited field of relationships. Creation becomes a process of materialization of ideas and is defined by most students in a conceptual approach. Through programming, electronic gadgetry, audio-visual recordings, animation, working with lighting or with natural processes, they search for a path to provide images and situations that define contemporary society or the daily life, where we can recognize even ourselves. They reflect the virtual or Internet environment with the same intensity as the real and natural world, which we live in.

The exhibition Northern Wind brings an insight into the work of the youngest generation of future artists. It presents original approach to variously reverberant topics from the area of culture, art, science, environment, technology and lifestyle. The metaphoric parable of the title does not refer to the cruel and freezing element, but to the freshness and new directions the current Czech art scene is moving in.
