“She slips a key to the Spaceship into her mouth and feels it all: the seeds, the buds, the growth. A tangle of roots branching wide. She is heavy yet full of bubbling movement, tiny feet, the effervescence of sap. She arrives floating in the state of weightlessness, her tendrils overgrowing the rocket that is within and all around. She is gazing through the leaves to the stars and feels the unborn world touching her. Soon she will be on her way Home.”

Petra Janda (1991) is a multimedia artist, graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts (studio of Tomáš Vaňek and Tomáš Hlavina) and founder of the web platform and database Artbiom.cz. This year she is the finalist of Jindřich Chalupecký Award. She works with natural materials such as paper, clay, ceramics, straw and hay. Her approach combines the thinking of contemporary ecofeminism with myth and spirituality, drawing on female corporeality, traditional crafts and natural processes and shapes.
